As a family, the Lees have been enjoying the facilities at Manly for over 20 years. The short drive from our home in East Auckland means we can finish work on Friday and be kayaking and fishing in the bay by 7pm. We love to explore the many regional parks that are scattered throughout the area. Manly is an affordable, comfortable and accommodating place.
Being a committee member means I can give back and have a say in the way the facilities are shaped in the future. This place is a legacy for nurses and other health professionals to have in their lives, who needs a batch when Manly is there for you.
Jane is the emergency contact on the confirmation form you will receive once full payment for your stay has been received.
When I began work with the District Nursing Service in 1988 I was introduced to the Nurses & Midwives Rest & Recreation Society and became a member. Within a year or so I joined the Committee.
Each person I have taken to the units at Manly has wanted to return. We celebrated my mother’s 90th birthday there and I have enjoyed having my nieces and then years later, their children to stay with me there. The spa was always a winner. Back from the beach, shower off the sand then warm up in the spa. The big trees were also greatly enjoyed with children lunching among their branches. Cycling in the Manly Reserve, hours on the beach, and spending coins in the nearby dairy were, and are, all favorites with the children.
Our aim and hope is that Manly will continue to be enjoyed by many people, and that our member numbers will be increased.
Treasurer| Manager – Auckland District Health Board
Alex joined Auckland DHB in August 2015 and started visiting the facilities almost straight away. Alex and his fiancé James love using the Manly property, particularly being so close to the beach. They enjoy taking their kayaks out for a paddle – sometimes bringing their dog along with them. Alex has been on the committee since May 2017 and is currently Treasurer for the Society.
